Kickoff Meeting Minutes
February 23 2005

15 volunteers attended.

Reviewed 2005 Goals:

1. Maintain and improve the existing trails

2. Maintain and enhance the information in the trail kiosks and walking guides

3. Help to build and/or open three new trails

a. Woodland Village

b. Algonquian trail connector to Sudbury Aqueduct

c. Timothy Coolidge Hill 

4. Implement a regular weekly schedule of guided walks (on sidewalks and trails) in various parts of town

2005 Schedule (Proposed)

February 23     -  Kickoff Meeting (7pm at Town Hall 2nd floor)

March 3           -  Community Preservation Act – Public Form (Morse Library)

March 5           -  Table at Organic Farm Pancake Breakfast

April 20           -  Meeting (7pm at Town Hall 2nd floor)

May 14            -  Table at Natick Spring Fair (10 – 2pm Natick Common) Volunteers Needed
-  Projects at Natick Service Day (2pm – 4pm Natick Common) Volunteers Needed

May 15            -  Hamlet Development trail project day (10am – 12)

May 21            -  Mumford Forest Trail Clean up Day

June 4              -  Amazing Race

June 22            -  Meeting (7pm at Town Hall 2nd floor)

September       -  Open Timothy Coolidge Hill Trail

September 28  -  Meeting (7pm at Town Hall 2nd floor)

October           -  Open Woodland Village Trail

October 26      -  Meeting (7pm at Town Hall 2nd floor)

November       -  Open Algonquian Connector Trail

volunteer opportunities

Volunteers needed

Trail Stewards
Pick a trail, walk your trail frequently, identify and report problems, help organize neighborhood clean up day once per year.

Trails:

Coolidge Woods / Hospital Trail
Coolidge Hill
Hamlet Development
Hunnewell Town Forest
Middlesex Path
Mumford Forest
Morency Woods
Timothy Coolidge Hill
Broads Woods
Pegan Cove
Woodland Village
Winter Woods

Walk leaders
Lead 1 or more walks per month (just agree to show up at a particular place; it's easy)

Examples: 
*  1st Saturday every month at 3pm, Start at Natick Common, 2 miles on sidewalks, relaxed pace
*  Every Sunday at 10am, Start at Coolidge Field, brisk pace on trails, 3 miles

Walking Guide & Map editors
Help to update the Walking Guides and maps, coordinate printing, keep stock of maps at Morse Library, Rec Dept, Town Hall, Senior Center

Public Relations Coordinator
Maintain schedule of events and publicize via newspapers, cable, fliers, email, other

Trail Building Coordinators
Organize and oversee the trail building projects for one of the following:

  • Algonquian connector trail
  • Timothy Coolidge Hill
  • Hospital connector to Union St.

Trail Sign Coordinator
Identify areas where trail signs are needed, craft wording, order signs, work with sign maker, and manage the installation of signs.

Corporate Sponsor Coordinator
Identify new corporate sponsors, solicit sponsorships, maintain communications with sponsors.

Amazing Race

Betsy Boggia presented an overview and will put together more details to help determine how many volunteers it would require.

We discussed possible dates and chose June 4th as a possible date.

We need to decide if we think we have the volunteer power to do this.
